Pt. Nayan Ghosh (Photo with courtsey)
Born in 1956, Pt. Nayan Ghosh is an extraordinary talent in Indian Classical Music. He has mastered two instruments – the Tabla and the Sitar – and has exceptional command over both. His father, Padma Bhushan Pt. Nikhil Ghosh was a highly acclaimed tabla maestro, and also an accomplished vocalist andsitar player. It is not surprising that under his tutelage his son reached great heights in both the sitar and tabla. He was also tutored by Ustad Ahmedjan Thirakwa, one of the greatest tabla artistes of the past century.

After he became comfortable with both the sitar and the tabla, he invited his father’s first guru, Pt. Jnana Prokash Ghosh to help him decide which instrument to continue with. After two weeks of listening to Nayan Ghosh play both instruments, the conclusion was that he should continue with both until the choice became easier. However till today, inspite of repeating this exercise twice more, the choice hasn’t become any easier.
Pt. Nayan Ghosh has been an A grade artist on All India Radio for both the sitar and tabla for over 25 years. Over the years he has performed, lectured and taught extensively across the length and breadth of the Indian sub-continent and around the world.

His sitar recitals sparkle with intense melody and convey the full depth of the raga with precise playing. His formidable tabla solos and eloquent accompaniments have won him a strong stamp of recognition as a tabla player. He currently heads the Sangeet Mahabharati in Mumbai, one of India’s premier music academies.
